Description
waverider8 store John Walsh Walsh Tri Corner Opaline FingerbowlJohn Walsh Walsh was the first to produce what is now called the Spanish Lace pattern.  He called it Opaline; it was later called Opaline Brocade, and then Northwood and Fenton called it Spanish Lace.  It is one of the prettiest patterns ever produced in opalescent glass.  The glass house originally begun by John Walsh Walsh was one of the better ones in the mid nineteenth century Stourbridge area of England.  Much of the credit for early  development of  Stourbridge/ Midlands glass is attributed to the innovations of John Walsh Walsh in both the process and decoration of glass. Stourbridge is to this day well known for its English Art Glass.  Many of Walsh's patterns were copied by other glass houses of the day, in spite of the patterns being registered.  There is an interesting article on Walsh glass at the following site:  www.theglassmuseum.com/johnwalshwalsh/htm.  There is also a Glass of John Walsh Walsh 1850-1951: Eric Reynolds: Books.boobook entitled " The Glass of John Walsh Walsh 1850-1951" by Eric Reynolds.  There is much consensus that Mr. Walsh was definitely one of the best of the best!As you look at the pictures, please note that the opalescent areas are raised.  Walsh had the unique ability to make his opalescent glass seem almost ephemeral....the quality is unbelievable!  This piece has a polished pontil, as shown, and has minimal shelf wear considering its age!  It does have two very teensy tiny bits of ash that I never noticed before and also a small mark where the pontil was broken off--both done during the manufacturing process.  The piece is in otherwise impeccable condition.  It is approximately 6" across and 3/4" tall.  From it's unused condition I would guess that it has been resting in a china cabinet throughout most if not all of its life! There are pictures taken in natural daylight and some under black light.  This is a gorgeous piece and I am offering free double boxed shipping.I have some other vaseline glass for sale and I will be listing some cranberry as well. Please email me if you have any questions. PLEASE NOTE:  I WILL BE OUT OF TOWN FROM JANUARY 1 - 15 2009, SO I WILL BE UNABLE TO SHIP UNTIL I RETURN HOME.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
