Hobbs Canary Pickle Castor Canoe in Meriden Holder HTF Vaseline Glass Daisy & Button 1884 Canoe/Pickle Castor Start Price USD 279.00 Current Price USD 279.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Wednesday, November 05, 2008 End Time Thursday, December 11, 2008 Location Mesa, Arizona See more about 'Hobbs Canary Pickle Castor Canoe in Meriden Holder HTF' Description waverider8 store Hobbs Brockunier Canary Canoe in SP Meriden Holder HTF HOBBS BROCKUNIER CANARY (VASELINE) CANOE IN MERIDEN SILVER PLATE HOLDERIt was in 1884 that Hobbs Brockunier began making the still-popular Daisy and Button canoes.  Made in a myriad of colors, Hobbs called this color canary glass; since then it has been called vaseline glass, or topaz glass  or uranium glass.  It is VERY HARD INDEED to find the canoe matched up with the Meriden Silver Plate holder.  This holder has the fork or tong holder intact as well, which is unusual--many times this piece has been broken off.  I do not have the tongs or fork unfortunately.  The holder has not been polished as long as I have owned this piece so it is dark in spots.  The glass canoe is in near-perfect condition.  I have examined it with a magnifying glass and I see only one tiny area the size of a pin-head however this is smooth to the touch so I do not believe it to be damage--possibly a tiny burst bubble or possibly some aberration from when it was removed from the mold.  This is not noticeable with the naked eye--just under magnification.Please review the pictures; you can click on them to make them larger.The canoe is approximately 8" across the top 3" tall on the end.  It is 3" wide also. The Meriden Holder is hallmarked and says "Made & Guaranteed by Meriden" also 312 and USA.  It is approximately 10" tall x 6 1/4" across the length on the bottom.The pictures were taken in natural daylight and under black light.  This piece glows madly under black light as you can see.  This is a gorgeous piece and I am offering free shipping.I have some other vaseline glass for sale and I will be listing some cranberry as well.
